More and more pistols come from factory with optics ready slide ready for many compact red dots.
One of the popular footprint, that you can find on many new "optics ready" pistols is Shield RMSc / Holosun K-series.
Such footprint allows you to install to your gun two very popular Holosun red dots: Holosun 407K and Holosun 507K.
And to make the decision easier for you, I am writing this article.
If you are in hurry or refuse to read, check the video at the end of the article.

Holosun 407K vs 507K: key differences
The key difference is the reticle:
- Holosun 407K has only a simple 6 MOA dot. And its available either as a red dot or green dot.
- Holosun 507K has 2 MOA dot and 32 MOA circle. You can use either only the 2 MOA dot, or only the 32 MOA circle. Or a combination of both. Again, also 507K is available in red color as well as in green color.
Other differences? Not existing.
The difference is just and only about the reticle - either you get 6 MOA dot, or a combination of 2 MOA dot and 32 MOA circle.
Useful info about 407K & 507K
Now that you know what you needed to know, lets get to some more boring stuff, but still pretty useful.
Battery
You will need CR1632 battery for both 407K and 507K. And you can expect the battery to last up to 50 000 hours of use in the medium brightness.
Also, both of them have the battery loading from side. So you do not have to demount it in order to change battery.

Brightness setting
Both red dots have 12 brightness settings
Materials certifications
Both Holosuns have the same aluminium housing. They also use the same window size.
And they also have the same certifications [IP67 for water ressistance].

Dimensions
Both of them share the same dimensions and weight.
They are 40.64 mm long, 24.89 mm wide and 24.13 mm high.
Both of them weight 28.3 g[1 oz].
Shake-awake technology
It is present in both of these Holosuns. And what it does? It turns the device off when not used, and turns it on when you move with it.

Manual
Lets walk through the main controls of both of these red dots (as they are the same when it comes to operation).
Turn on
- Press either plus or minus
Turn off
- Press both buttons at the same time
Brightness adjustment
- Press plus or minus to increase or lower the brightness
Reticle change [only 507K]
- Hold the minus button for 3 seconds.
Activate "Lock out mode"
- Hold the plus button for 3 seconds.
What does it do? It secures that you do not accidentally change your settings. Basically it will disable the buttons functionability.
Adjust windage & elevation
- Use the screw on top for for elevation, and the screw on side for windage adjustment.
Does the "K-series" use the same footprint as the "C-series"?

In other words: Will the same footprint as for Holosun 407K and 507K work also on the Holosun 407C and Holosun 507C? And the answer is: No.
The 407K and 507K use so-called Holosun K-series footprint, which is rather smaller and used for compact guns.
The 407C and 507C use the Trijicon RMR footprint, which is designed for larger red dots (and larger pistols).
So be very careful while reading which red dot do you have - the compatibility depends on the "K" or the "C" at the end of the name.
