What Optics Ready Plates do Walther Pistols Use?

If you got yourself new Optics Ready Walther pistol, you will have to get an adapter plate in order to accomodate the gun with red dot sight. Now, the point is to get the right one, and with that I will help. 

There are three types of optics ready plates that work with Walther pistols:

• Optics ready plates for Walther PDP 1.0 models
• Optics ready plates for Walther PDP 2.0 models
• Optics ready plates for Walther PPQ Q4 OR & Q5 OR models

These plates are very different, so you can be sure that if you get a wrong one, it surely will not fit your gun. 

Optics ready plates for Walther PDP 1.0 models

As I explained here, there are two types of PDP plates. One is for older PDP models (basically anything made between 2021 and 2022). And one is for newer PDP models (made 2022 and later).

You need to get the PDP 1.0 plate only in case your gun has the slide cut in the style as in the picture above on the left.

And I put below picture of the bottom surface of adapter plate - as you can see, its similarly flat as the PDP 1.0  slide cut surface.

Optics ready plates for Walther PDP 2.0 models

Unless you buy an used gun, you will end up with some of the newer PDP models, which are named here as PDP 2.0 models. They differ from the 1.0 models by having many grooves on the surface between slide and plate.

Below you can find picture of plate that fits the 2.0 models. Comapre it with the plate for 1.0 models above to see the difference.

There are quite a few of these newer PDP models and non of them has officially any "2.0" in the name. So below I mention main series that are available as of today mid 2025, and that are already the 2.0 version:

• Walther PDP Full Size
• Walther PDP Compact
• Walther PDP F-Series
• Walther PDP Pro
• Walther PDP Steel Frame

These all share the very same optics ready plate. So for example Walther PDP Full Size 4" and Walther PDP Full Size Steel Frame 4.5" will use the very same adapter plate.

Optics ready plates for Walther PPQ Q5 OR and Walther PPQ Q4 OR

These are much more different from the PDP plates. However, there are no longer two types of plates (no "1.0" and "2.0") - just one type for both the PPQ Q4 and Q5 optics ready models. 

These plates are much more robust considering the shape of optics ready cut. All of these plates are listed here.
