In this article I will compare Holosun EPS and Holosun EPS Carry. I will also go through features that both of these optics offer, and also show you a quick manual on how to operate both red dots.
Holosun EPS as well as Holosun EPS Carry use the Holosun K-series footprint. Any mounting device (plate or mount) with that footprint will therefore also allow you to use both of these.
- optic plates with compatible footprint
- red dot mounts with compatible footprint
- red dots with the same footprint
Comparison & differences
The main difference between EPS and EPS Carry is size. Size of the red dot body as well as size of the footprint.
The spacing for holes and screws are the same, its just that EPS is slightly wider compared to EPS Carry. Both will however fit the very same plate or mount.
The EPS is larger to be better fit for standard sized pistols. The EPS Carry on the other hand will better suit compact size pistols.
However, you can still use the larger EPS on compact pistol as well as the EPS Carry on full size. There is nothing that would make it not compatible.
Unique features of EPS & EPS Carry
What unique features do these two red dots share? Lets see below:
Multi reticle system (for the MRS variants)
The MRS variants of EPS and EPS Carry have 3 set ups for reticle:
- 2 MOA dot
- 32 MOA circle
- combination of 32 MOA circle and 2 MOA dot
You can choose between these two by holding the minus button for 3 seconds.
Shake awake technology
Both of the sights have shake awake technology.
It makes the red dot deactivate automatically when not in use. And then activating it again automatically, whenever you pickup your gun.
As a consequence, this extends the battery life up to 50 000 hours (almost 6 years).
Nevertheless, I highly recommend getting new battery as soon as the red dot arrives - the factory battery can be drained right out of the box.
The red dot uses the CR1632 battery.
Adjustable brightness
You can adjust the brightness manually with all the models.
The MRS variants of EPS and EPS Carry also has the function of auto brightness adjustment. It will adjust the brightness automatically based on the conditions.
Certification IPX8
Both of these sights are IPX8 certified.
That means that they can be safely submerged in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
Solar Failsafe function
Both EPS and EPS Carry in MRS variant also have the Solar Failsafe function.
That means that if the battery fails to work, the solar panel will power your optic if there is enough light.
Manual
Both of these sights are operated the same. You will operate all the functions through these two buttons on left side of the optics.
Power: on
Press either of the two buttons to turn it on.
Power: off
Press both buttons simultaneously.
Change the mode for brightness settings
Press the plus buton for 3 seconds to change the mode.
There are three brightness modes:
- auto mode - automatically adjusts brightness & supply from battery / solar
- manual mode - you will have to select the brightness manually
- lockout mode - to lock the settings so it cannot be changed by accident
Change of intensity of the LED in manual mode
If you chosen the manual mode, then you can adjust the brightness by shortly pressing the plus or the minus button.
Minus button = less brightness | Plus button = more brightness.
Change of reticle
To change the reticle on your EPS / EPS Carry, hold the minus button for 3 seconds.
Adjust windage and elevation
For this you will need the adjusting tool that is in the box.
The turrent on the right side of optic elevates the dot.
The turrent from the top of the optic does the windage adjustment.
In both cases, one click = 1 MOA adjustment.
Other Holosun EPS & EPS Carry variants
These red dots are available in few reticle options. We tested the multi reticle system, as that one is the most complex, but below you find all the variants:
- 2 MOA dot
- 6 MOA dot
- Multi reticle system (MRS) - which allows you to choose from 2 MOA dot, 32 MOA circle, and a combination of 32 MOA circle and 2 MOA dot
And lastly - all of these variants are available in red color as well as in green color.
The MRS variant has a solar panel, the other two variants do not.
