Which red dots will fit the new Glock Gen 6 models: Explained

If you wondered which red dots will fit the new Glock gen.6 models, this article is for you. I explain the full compatibility of red dots for the new Glocks.

Why is it important? Because with the release of the Glock Gen 6, the mounting system for red dots has went through a significant redesign.

Which red dots will fit the new Glock Gen 6 models: Explained

The Gen 6 Mounting System

The Glock Gen 6 has moved away from the older MOS system found on Gen 5 models (that system used these adapter plates).

The new Glock gen.6 models (G17, G19, G45 and others) now come with new mechanism of mounting red dots. To install red dot to the new Glocks, you will use one of the three specific adapter plates that come together with the gun.

These plates are numbered #2, #3, and #4. To keep things simple, I will reffer to each of them by the number it has printed on it (that is plate #2, plate #3 and plate #4).

Plate #2: RMR Footprint (Full-Size Optics)

Plate #2 is designed for the Trijicon RMR footprint. That does not mean that you can install only Trijicon RMR to it. It means that you can install any red dot, that uses the same footprint (which there are many).

These optics are typically wider than the slide but offer a larger window and robust battery life.

Most popular optics compatible with plate #2 [RMR footprint]:

  1. Osight C: Very good price / quality ratio. Red dot with small dimensions and multi reticle system: choose from 3 MOA dot, 32 MOA circle or both. Window size 19.5 x 24.1 mm.
  2. Holosun 507Comp: Top of the Holosun productoin. Multi reticle system with 6 different aiming pictures. Window size 22.1 x 27.9 mm.
  3. Vector Optics Frenzy 1x22x26 MOS MRS: Budget red dot with very good quality. 3 reticle options: 3 MOA dot, 34 MOA circle, or circle with dot. Window size 22 x 26 mm.

In this category you can find also other red dots that share the same footprint, and will work with the plate #2: red dots with Trijicon RMR footprint.

If you are upgrading from Glock Gen 5, please note: The Holosun SCS MOS will NOT fit the Gen 6 slide. The Gen 6 slide no longer uses the proprietary Gen 5 MOS footprint.
